Hamble, 7 October 2014: HRSC is delighted to welcome MDL Marinas back as lead sponsor of the 9th Hamble Big Boat Championships.

The MDL Hamble Big Boat Championships 2014 will run on Saturday 11th/Sunday 12th October and Saturday 24th/Sunday 25th October.

The event, held across two weekends when there is high water on the central Solent plateau, is renowned for close, competitive racing.  It regularly attracts a top grand prix race fleet from across the Solent, all seeking an exhilarating end to the season.
The MDL Big Boat Championships offer 4 races each Saturday and 2 each Sunday.  Racing, under the experienced eye of Race Officers Jamie Wilkinson and Stephen Parry, is offered for Farr 45 and J/111 as one design and IRC rated boats with a minimum TCC of 1.040. Other One Design Classes with a minimum IRC TCC of 1.040 that can muster a minimum of six entries may also apply for a class start. Please contact HRSC to discuss.

Dean Smith, Operations and Marketing Director,MDL said: “MDL Marinas is delighted to be the lead sponsor for this year’s Hamble Big Boat Championships. The series is a natural fit with MDL – being based just offshore from our Hamble Point Marina and involving much of the local community. MDL Marinas works hard to encourage young people to become active in sailing, working with the Ocean Youth Trust South to give deserving young people the chance to participate in the sport, so it’s great to be involved in another fantastic sailing event. We’re all looking forward to some great racing action over the coming weeks.”

The MDL Big Boat Championships are celebrating their 9th edition in 2014 and have grown over the years to become a key component of the Garmin Hamble Winter Series.  Prize giving is at 3.30pm each Sunday race day at Hamble River Sailing Club, which offers a warm welcome, hot food and competitively priced beer!
